Read the verdictKraken: plan a bank exit
Worth choosing when an accepted USD bank withdrawal is more important than keeping everything in tokens.
Read the verdict| What you want | Start here | The important difference |
|---|---|---|
| Trade with transferable crypto | OKX | A futures position and a crypto withdrawal are separate actions |
| Use an international bank transfer | Kraken | Arrange the local investment permission and an accepted bank method |
| Buy Bitcoin and keep it | A spot service | You do not need a leveraged contract just to own Bitcoin |
Which crypto contract matches the balance you want?
If you want to trade Bitcoin’s direction and finish with USDT, use a USDT-settled perpetual. Buying a BTCUSDT perpetual does not buy withdrawable Bitcoin. The BTC part identifies the price you are trading; USDT identifies how this contract’s result is paid.
If you want Bitcoin in your own wallet after the trade, buy it on the spot market and use a supported Bitcoin withdrawal. Taking a leveraged price position first adds a separate position to manage. It is useful for a short-term long or short view, but unnecessary merely to acquire coins.
A Belize-licensed crypto CFD is a third product. The FSC’s March 2026 policy permits eligible licensees to offer crypto CFDs subject to its conditions; it does not let them treat that permission as a crypto custody or spot exchange licence. Keep that distinction in mind when an advertisement says “Bitcoin trading” without naming the product.
Can you switch the type halfway through?
Closing a USDT perpetual leaves the resulting funds in the exchange account. It does not deliver the Bitcoin quantity shown as the position size. You would need a separate spot purchase to turn those funds into BTC. That extra purchase has its own price and fee, and BTC can move while you arrange the transfer.
For a Belize reader eventually spending BZD, this is a reason to plan the last conversion before choosing the first contract. A USDT result can be simpler to track against a dollar budget than a result left in Bitcoin, although a stablecoin is not a bank dollar or a guaranteed BZD payout. The local bank permission and conversion discussed below remain part of the plan.
Why choose OKX for crypto-funded trading?
In OKX’s practice account, choose the USDT-backed contract you intend to learn rather than a random popular coin. USDT is a token designed to follow the US dollar; a perpetual is a futures contract without a normal end date. Practising on the intended contract makes the position size and closing controls more familiar.
Use the trial to answer a concrete question: can you place a small order, find the open position and close it without accidentally placing another trade? That is more useful than a demo profit screenshot. The order controls are the part you are learning; the simulated result does not show how reliably you will make money with real funds.
- Open the app menu and select Demo trading, or choose Demo trading from the website’s Trade menu.
- Pick a USDT-backed perpetual and read the selected trade size before confirming.
- Open a practice position, then use its closing control and check that the position has ended.
- Leave demo mode deliberately. Confirm you are on the intended account before depositing or placing a real order.
OKX names Belize in the service terms for its El Salvador entity, but qualifies access by product. For an eligible account with the intended futures market enabled, compare its trading and funding terms below.
Why OKX rather than Kraken for an existing USDT balance?
For OKX’s USDT-backed contract, the trade’s gains and losses are paid in USDT. Kraken’s multi-currency futures wallet instead calculates results in USD and can convert other balances when settling them. We prefer the first arrangement for a reader who wants to start and finish with the same token, without managing a dollar-based wallet alongside it.
This is a preference for a simpler account setup, not a claim that OKX has a lower basic commission. The two have the same starting rates in this comparison, and Kraken currently lists zero conversion fees for USDT. If you already use Kraken comfortably, those facts do not give you a strong cost reason to move. Its bank options can make staying there more useful.
What will a basic trade cost?
At OKX’s published starting futures tier, an immediately filled order costs 0.05% of its value. An order that waits in the market and is later accepted by another trader can qualify for 0.02%. The usual names are taker and maker. A limit-price order is not automatically the cheaper kind if it trades immediately.
Suppose a practice position represents USDT 600. At 0.05%, opening it costs USDT 0.30; closing at the same value adds another 0.30. The charge uses the full USDT 600 trade, not just the smaller amount you put behind it. Payments for keeping a perpetual open are additional and can change, so the opening fee is not the whole cost of a multi-day position.
Can you fund the account with Belize dollars?
A Belize-dollar bank balance is not a dollar deposit already waiting inside an exchange. The local currency is tied to the US dollar, but the bank still handles an actual currency conversion and overseas payment. The reviewed platforms do not establish a direct BZD bank account for this guide.
On 25 September 2026, the Central Bank displayed a USD buying rate of BZ$2.0000 and selling rate of BZ$2.0175. At the displayed selling rate, US$500 would cost BZ$1,008.75 before transfer charges. That is an illustration of the quoted rate on that date, not a guaranteed bank offer for your next payment.
For a smaller budget, ask how much will actually arrive rather than comparing only the advertised trading percentage. A bank charge that looks modest for a business payment can take a large share of a small trading deposit. Increasing leverage does not recover that cost; it only increases the price movement your remaining balance is exposed to.
What must a Belize resident arrange?
The Central Bank requires specific permission for residents’ outward investment. Its guidance asks for the amount and currency, the nature of the investment and the source of money, with supporting records. Tell the bank that you intend to fund your own trading account. Do not describe an investment as an unrelated purchase to make the payment look simpler.
Atlantic Bank’s public instructions make the practical split visible: the payment is reviewed, a foreign-exchange application is involved, and the bill can include the bank charge, conversion and stamp duty. Its page is evidence of the bank’s transfer process, not a promise that it will accept a particular exchange as the recipient.
Get the recipient instructions from the verified exchange account, then ask the bank about that named recipient and purpose. This prevents a common wrong sequence: purchasing foreign currency before finding out that the intended transfer cannot proceed. The final comparison should be between funded accounts you can use, not accounts that merely let you register.
When would Kraken be a better choice?
Choose Kraken ahead of OKX when a documented USD banking method is central to your plan. Kraken’s non-US futures policy does not list Belize as excluded. Its USD guide describes international Bank Frick transfers and same-name funding. Availability inside a verified account remains important, as does your bank’s acceptance of the payment.
One useful banking detail comes from Atlantic Bank: its incoming-payment instructions ask for a meaningful purpose, and warn that vague descriptions can delay processing. With an approved Kraken withdrawal, retain the account statement and withdrawal record so the bank can identify the trading proceeds.
What happens when money comes back?
A request for supporting documents does not by itself mean the payment has been lost. Compare the sender, recipient and stated purpose with the bank instructions, and supply the actual account records rather than inventing an invoice for a trade that was not a sale to a customer.
Before withdrawing, establish whether the receiving bank will credit a permitted foreign-currency account or convert the payment into BZD. The exchange’s withdrawal status and the amount eventually credited are different stages. If the received amount is lower, compare the exchange record with the bank’s charge and conversion record before assuming the trade itself lost money.
Are crypto CFDs still banned in Belize?
The old description of an ongoing blanket prohibition is out of date. In its policy effective 31 March 2026, the Belize FSC says the earlier restriction expired on 31 December 2025. Crypto CFDs fall under the securities framework, with the appropriate registration and supervisory requirements. This does not make every offshore crypto service a Belize-authorised broker.
For a customer, the useful follow-up is the company name in the account contract. If a broker advertises a Belize registration, check that exact company and the relevant service in the FSC’s register. A logo, group brand or company incorporation certificate alone does not settle which business accepts your deposit or which product its registration covers.
The FSC statement also distinguishes notifying the supervisor from receiving an authorisation. A provider saying that it has “informed the regulator” has not, by those words alone, shown permission for everything it sells. Ask for the registration that matches the offering, rather than collecting impressive-sounding legal phrases.
This matters when comparing a CFD broker with OKX or Kraken. The broker may sell a different contract under a different company and regulator. A Belize CFD rule does not automatically decide whether an offshore exchange will approve a resident’s perpetual account. Keep the two comparisons separate so that a legal headline does not replace checking the product you intend to trade.
Does an overseas income or company change the answer?
Being paid in US dollars can reduce the need to buy foreign currency, but it does not erase Belize’s resident-account rules. The Central Bank explains that residents receiving foreign currency normally must surrender it to an authorised dealer unless permitted to retain and use it. Foreign bank accounts require permission under its published guidance.
Someone doing remote work for an overseas client therefore needs to distinguish two questions: where the salary may be kept, and whether it may be used for an overseas investment. A foreign bank app does not answer both automatically. Ask about the actual income, account and intended use before treating an overseas balance as unrestricted trading money.
Nationality alone is also a poor shortcut. A Belizean living overseas and a foreign national living in Belize may face different residence checks. Give the exchange your genuine current residence and use the account classification accepted by your bank. Copying someone else’s successful signup is not evidence that the same contract will apply to you.
A Belize-registered company is another account holder, not a way to relabel a personal account. A business application can involve ownership, activity and source-of-funds checks. Use it for genuine company activity with the correct account documentation; do not assume incorporation turns an unavailable retail product into an approved corporate one.
What can stop a USDT withdrawal after you close?
First check that the position has actually closed. A limit order waiting for your chosen price is not a completed exit. If part of it fills, the remaining position can still gain or lose money and keep some funds committed. The position tab, filled quantity and available balance settle this question more reliably than an “order placed” message.
Next check the destination’s USDT network. USDT is issued on multiple blockchains, and a receiving service need not accept every version supported by the sender. Use the same network at both ends. Copying an address successfully is not, on its own, proof that the network is supported.
OKX shows the withdrawal minimum and fee for the selected asset and network. Compare the amount that will reach the recipient, especially if the purpose is a small test before a later transfer. A test below the destination’s minimum can fail to credit even when it appears on-chain; increasing the trading leverage does nothing to solve a withdrawal minimum.
Finally, separate an exchange withdrawal from a sale into BZD. Sending USDT to another wallet leaves you with USDT. Selling it creates a new transaction with a buyer or service, and a bank credit only becomes useful when it reaches an accepted account under the relevant Belize rules. Keep the transaction ID and the actual conversion receipt so that a delay can be traced to the correct step.
