Reading a country result

How We Verify Crypto Futures Access by Country

A futures contract can exist without being available to your account. Our country research separates the product, the resident group it serves and the conditions that could prevent you from using it.

Residence is the starting point, not the whole answer

Choose the place where you actually reside in the Country Access Checker. An exchange may use that residence to assign a legal entity and its products. Citizenship, identity documents, professional status and physical location can impose additional restrictions. We do not substitute a passport country for residence or assume a foreign bank account changes eligibility.

A person moving from the United Kingdom to an EEA country therefore needs the resident product for the new location, including any required account update. A holiday abroad does not demonstrate that change. Where the evidence addresses citizens living overseas, regional documents or separate territories, the country dossier explains the particular case.

Available and Limited: what the country labels mean

Available

The country research identifies a provider route to derivatives. This describes exchange access, not local regulatory approval or permission to use every product, payment method or leverage level. The article explains the applicable account and product conditions.

Limited

A narrower route is available, such as spot or margin trading, or a named legal or onboarding condition limits derivatives. A local spot exchange can help with funding without qualifying as a futures recommendation.

The country-level result also considers local restrictions. The platform entries and the local explanation show why a country may be Limited, Very Limited or Fully Blocked even when an operator offers products internationally.

Two questions that need two different sources

Operator eligibility

Does Kraken describe an EEA derivatives account?

Its EEA eligibility page identifies verification requirements, a derivatives questionnaire and a tax identification number for new clients. That supports a defined resident product, subject to onboarding. It does not mean a person has already passed the assessment.

Did the UK’s ETN change also reopen retail futures?

No. The FCA’s announcement permitting certain crypto ETNs separately retains the retail crypto derivatives ban. A headline about greater crypto access therefore cannot establish a retail perpetual account.

FCA announcement and product boundary

These examples were checked on 9 October 2026. They illustrate the method, not a comparison of equivalent products. The UK dossier and individual EEA country articles apply the product distinction to their own shortlists.

Why the serving entity and exact contract matter

The brand name on an app is not enough. One group can operate a local spot exchange, an international derivatives venue and a separate regulated futures service. A licence for one activity cannot prove another entity may offer perpetuals to the same customer. We look for the operator named in the product terms and match its country and client conditions.

Product names need similar care. Spot margin, dated futures, perpetuals and contracts for difference can carry different eligibility and leverage rules. If the source supports a locally capped product, the article must not replace that cap with the international platform’s highest advertised setting. A functioning market-data endpoint proves an instrument was reported, not that the reader can trade it.

Regional sections are included when location can change the entity, documents, funding or product. A territory is not assigned its parent jurisdiction’s permissions merely because it uses the same currency or passport. Conversely, a different local language does not justify inventing a different derivatives regime.

What we publish when the answer is incomplete

Suppose an exchange names a country on a coin-buying page and lists BTC perpetuals elsewhere. Those two facts do not establish that a resident can combine them. We retain the supported service and explain the missing product connection; the reader should not have to infer what our evidence failed to prove.

If a derivatives route is not sufficiently documented, the page can show no confirmed route. That is a limit of the research, not a finding that every possible exchange is prohibited. A legal prohibition needs its own source. We also do not label a reachable website as a lawful route or suggest location and identity workarounds.

Source access and account access are different questions. A publisher blocking our automated request does not prove it blocks residents from trading. A failed request also cannot validate a new rule. The source policy explains how retrieved content, restricted links and temporary failures are recorded without collapsing them into one status.

How evidence affects the shortlist

We prioritize the resident’s actual choice: which product is supported, what disqualifies an account, how collateral reaches it and which limit applies. The number of entries varies with useful evidence. A local spot route can appear for funding context without competing as a futures recommendation.

Partner status cannot create eligibility. A signup button is subject to the country and product restrictions; an uncertain route should not acquire a stronger conclusion because it has a tracked link. The affiliate disclosure explains compensation separately from this access method.

Sources and research · scope and review dates

The current library contains 201 jurisdiction dossiers: 195 country entries and 6 additional guides for Bermuda, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Kosovo, Puerto Rico, Taiwan. This describes the research coverage; it is not a claim that all entries are UN member states or have identical constitutional status.

A dossier review date records its editorial revision. A source check belongs to the particular rule, and a dated index edition remains fixed. Updating this methodology does not refresh every national law or onboarding policy. A newly discovered restriction can require changes to the article, checker and recommendation together.

No authenticated account approval, deposit, withdrawal or trade was performed for these examples. Evidence is public documentation, not a test of every applicant’s eligibility.
