Crypto.com Exchange or Bybit for Vanuatu futures?
The choice here is between two international crypto accounts: Crypto.com Exchange’s perpetual product with eligible wallet assets as collateral, and Bybit’s choice of settlement formats. A Vanuatu resident who already owns BTC has a different decision from someone arriving with USDT ready to trade.
Neither provider names Vanuatu in the geographic exclusion list reviewed for this article. That supports considering their international products, subject to customer verification and local requirements. It is not proof that either operates under a Vanuatu VASP licence, and we have not presented either as locally licensed.
Choose the Exchange product, not just the brand
Crypto.com’s main consumer app, Exchange and other regional products should not be treated as one service. The recommendation here concerns the Exchange derivatives account. Owning its card or buying BTC in the main app does not establish access to that product.
An eligible Exchange user accepts the derivatives terms and deposits collateral that the account recognises. The trading screen then shows available margin and the required amount for an order. That product sequence matters more than a generic “available in Vanuatu” label on a brand review.
Where Bybit makes sense
Bybit’s USDT perpetuals offer an alternative for traders who want their collateral, commissions and results expressed in USDT. Its USDC and inverse contracts have different settlement arrangements, so select the actual contract rather than assuming every Bybit futures position behaves like a USDT pair.
For a new account with no existing exchange balances, the verified cost advantage puts Crypto.com Exchange ahead in this shortlist. For someone already using Bybit, the difference should be weighed against the markets and account setup they actually need. We have not measured Vanuatu-specific execution quality, and the wider country catalogue remains available below.
The current fees are different from older comparison tables
We checked the derivatives tab on Crypto.com Exchange’s live fee page on 3 October 2026. Level 1, below USD 500,000 in 30-day derivatives volume, showed 0.020% maker and 0.040% taker without a qualifying CRO balance. Some third-party comparisons still quote 0.017% and 0.034%; those are not the base rates used here.
| Execution | Crypto.com Exchange, base tier | Bybit, non-VIP published example |
|---|---|---|
| Maker order | 0.020% | 0.020% |
| Taker order | 0.040% | 0.055% |
| Two taker trades of unchanged 10,000-unit value | USD 8 commission equivalent | 11 USDT commission on a USDT contract |
The example isolates commission; it does not assume USD and USDT are interchangeable or include funding, spread, price movement, collateral conversion or withdrawal. Bybit says account and regional conditions can affect its fee schedule. The rate displayed to the verified customer takes precedence over a general table.
For a Vanuatu trader using vatu savings, a difference of three dollar-equivalent units on that example is useful but not decisive by itself. The total debit needed to acquire the collateral may differ more. Conversely, someone making repeated trades with funds already on the exchange will encounter the trading commission again on every execution.
Higher turnover or CRO-related benefits can change the comparison. They should be compared on their actual terms rather than treated as a free discount available to every new Vanuatu account.
How much leverage can a Vanuatu account use?
No single retail crypto-perpetual multiplier for all Vanuatu residents was established by the sources reviewed. The provider’s contract and account rules determine the advertised trading limit; the local licensing framework does not turn every exchange’s maximum into a national entitlement.
Crypto.com directs customers to its live margin rules for instrument limits. Its crypto perpetuals support isolated or Smart Cross Margin arrangements. With cross margin, eligible assets in the relevant wallet help support positions. Assets may receive a valuation discount, and amounts above a collateral cap do not add usable margin.
For a Vanuatu resident holding BTC before opening a futures account, that makes the collateral choice meaningful. A BTC deposit may remain exposed to Bitcoin’s price as well as supporting the position. A wallet’s headline asset value is not necessarily the amount available to open another trade.
We have not converted the existence of high-leverage settings into a promise of 100x or 200x for a newly verified Vanuatu customer. Inspect the chosen BTC or ETH instrument and account limit together. On Bybit, also identify whether you selected a USDT, USDC or inverse contract before comparing the permitted size.
A useful account-screen comparison
Look at the amount the same proposed position would reserve in each eligible account, using the collateral you actually intend to deposit. Compare that with the remaining withdrawable balance. This resolves whether one platform accommodates your setup more cleanly; a marketing maximum alone does not answer it.
Can you fund crypto futures directly in vatu?
We did not verify a VUV-settled perpetual or a direct vatu futures wallet on the shortlisted products. A Vanuatu trader therefore needs a supported cash or crypto deposit route into the relevant account. Displaying an estimated balance in vatu does not change the contract’s settlement asset.
National Bank of Vanuatu’s domestic funds-transfer terms provide a useful local distinction: those transfers are processed in vatu, including conversion where a foreign-currency account is involved. A domestic transfer to another Vanuatu account is not the international funding instruction for an offshore exchange.
Starting with an NBV balance
An overseas exchange beneficiary needs an accepted international payment arrangement, not simply the domestic transfer form. Establish which currency leaves the bank and which currency the destination credits. We found no public NBV confirmation promising acceptance of deposits to either shortlisted futures provider, so this guide does not advertise an integrated NBV-to-exchange service.
If a card or third-party crypto purchase is offered, compare the total VUV debit with the collateral actually delivered. That quote can contain currency conversion and purchase charges separate from the maker or taker rate. A provider supporting a card network globally does not prove that your Vanuatu-issued card will be accepted.
Starting with USDT or another supported asset
You may be able to fund an eligible account through a supported blockchain deposit without making a new vatu purchase. The token and network must both be supported at the destination. A token with the same ticker on a different network is not automatically an interchangeable deposit.
For the eventual cash exit, identify the withdrawal asset and the service converting it back into bank money. Do not choose an exchange solely because entry is easy. Someone planning to spend the proceeds in VUV needs an actual conversion and bank-credit route, whereas a trader retaining funds on-chain has a different requirement.
What Vanuatu’s new crypto law does—and does not—prove
Vanuatu now has a Virtual Assets Service Providers Act, with a consolidated 2026 edition. A guide built only around the Reserve Bank’s 2018 crypto warning misses that later framework. Equally, the new law does not establish that every overseas trading website has received local approval.
The Act distinguishes exchange services, transfers and custody, among other activities. That matters to a customer because permission to exchange assets and permission to hold them are not simply the same claim. The legal entity, licence class and stated service should match what the platform proposes to do with your money.
The requirements concern the business providing services. They should not be carelessly rewritten as a blanket statement that a Vanuatu individual is banned from owning crypto. Nor is the VASP framework proof of deposit insurance or compensation if an offshore derivatives platform fails.
| Document or claim | What it establishes | What remains unproven |
|---|---|---|
| Company registration | The named company exists in the register | Permission for the crypto service being offered |
| VASP exchange authorisation | The stated licensed exchange activity and conditions | Every form of custody or every derivatives product |
| Approval for crypto collateral custody | The approved holding arrangement within its scope | Guaranteed recovery of a customer’s balance |
Why a “Vanuatu-regulated” broker accepting USDT needs a closer look
An offer to accept BTC or USDT as margin can resemble an exchange account while relying on a different custody arrangement. VFSC’s 2026 collateral guidance addresses this directly: a financial dealer that receives or holds virtual assets as collateral must obtain approval for that custody arrangement, even if it does not trade those assets itself.
The guidance also covers use of a third-party custodian and requires separation of customer collateral from the dealer’s own assets. Outsourcing custody does not remove the dealer’s responsibility to the VFSC.
For the reader, the useful question is concrete: when you send USDT, does the trading company hold it, does another custodian hold it, or is it immediately converted into a different balance? Those arrangements can produce different withdrawal rights. A generic licence logo does not explain the answer.
Are DEX perpetuals outside Vanuatu’s rules?
The VFSC’s January 2026 DeFi guidelines explicitly discuss platforms, interfaces, aggregation, bridges and other facilitation. Its assessment includes who controls the front end, custody, administrative keys and fees. A local service cannot establish that it has no responsibilities simply by putting “decentralised” in its name.
That also changes how to read a DEX recommendation. A wallet connection and an on-chain contract are technical access, not proof that an interface accepts every resident or that the protocol has Vanuatu authorisation. The retained directory includes decentralised alternatives, but this review did not establish a locally licensed DEX perpetual venue.
For a reader already using on-chain collateral, the relevant comparison is the actual supported market, collateral chain, interface terms and ability to withdraw from the contract. Opening a wallet does not create a VUV off-ramp. The VFSC guidance also names smart-contract, oracle and liquidity risks; here that means code failure, a bad price feed or insufficient trading liquidity can affect the position.
Port Vila, Santo and residents with foreign passports
We found no separate provincial futures allowance that gives a resident of Luganville more leverage than a resident of Port Vila. The shortlisted providers’ conditions are stated at country or account level. There is no evidence-based reason to duplicate their ranking for Efate, Espiritu Santo and every other island.
Foreign nationals genuinely living in Vanuatu need the provider to assess their actual residence and any additional nationality restrictions. A French or Australian passport should not be silently converted into either automatic refusal or guaranteed international-account acceptance. The applicable policy and customer review control that outcome.
The reverse case also matters: owning a Vanuatu passport while living in an excluded jurisdiction does not turn that person into a Vanuatu-resident customer. For example, Crypto.com’s derivatives exclusions name Australia and New Zealand. A Vanuatu citizenship document alone does not establish eligibility for someone based there.
If you move into Vanuatu with an existing crypto account, have the provider review the change before transferring a derivatives balance between entities. You want confirmation of the product you will actually receive, rather than discovering that the app kept the old jurisdiction’s features or restrictions.
Does Vanuatu tax personal crypto-futures profits?
Vanuatu’s investment agency states that the country has no personal income tax or capital gains tax. That gives a materially different starting point from neighbouring countries that tax investment income. It does not mean every financial transaction is free of charges or that every person holding Vanuatu citizenship has no tax liability anywhere.
For someone resident and trading only in Vanuatu, we found no separate published personal crypto-futures tax regime overriding that general position. A person with continuing tax residence or filing obligations abroad needs to consider those separately. Incorporating a Vanuatu company or obtaining a passport does not, on its own, settle another country’s treatment of the owner.
Keep the transaction history even where no local personal income tax is due. It supports the source of a later bank withdrawal and helps distinguish deposited capital from trading results. Providing trading services to other people also raises business and licensing questions beyond this guide’s focus on an individual trading their own account.
